Good Morning. That’s actually how I feel today. Do you have those days too? And it is difficult to do all the right things when that happens. So what do you do when it does?
I’ll tell you what I do. I choose from my evil baddies, what is the least of all evils? Sometimes, you have to give yourself permission to breathe. Now, do I mean if you are a diabetic to have a bag of M&m’s? No, I mean to find a way to give yourself some balance when you feel as if you are going to scream. For example, when I used to work in the kitchen and things were going as wrong as they could get, I would go into the walk in cooler and practice primal urge scream therapy. That is after I warned my staff ahead of time so they wouldn’t be concerned something had happened to me.. Now I know you cannot practice that in the office (unless you have a storage closet that is pretty much soundproof), but you can find a healthy way to release your stress other than through a bag of chips, box of chocolates, or 3 martini’s. You also do not want to beat yourself up over what choice you make. For example – I had problems sleeping last night. When my alarm went off, I gave myself permission to sleep in for my exercise time because I knew it was more important for me to get the rest than to exercise and burn out at 2pm. The exercise is important, but having a rested mind to focus wouldn’t happen if I didn’t have the proper mount of rest. In the same sense, stuffing my mouth full of some food isn’t going to solve my deadline nor is it going to make me feel better five days from now when I cannot fit into the outfit I am suppose to wear to a presentation.
Do you get what I am saying? Think your decision through versus acting on impulse. Take the time to think things through so that you are okay with what you decide. That’s what we teach our children. Why do we think that it no longer applies when we re grown ups? If we are going to act like a child, then we need to think like one also. We have to take a time out and think about our decisions before we make them.
