Happy Tuesday Morning!!! I hope your week is starting off well. I wanted to share a new concept (at least for me) that I have implemented into my life. I call them my Accountability Buddies. Being self employed, and doing a majority of my work from home, it can be very easy to get distracted, discouraged, dis – whatever comes my way. Having an Accountability Buddy keeps me on track.
At the workplace, you have coworkers and bosses to keep you on track (well, kindof). Even then they can be more of a distraction than a boost. Especially if they are under their own stressors and use you to validate their dilemma. We need someone to take us out of our heads and into the problem solution stage.
Look at some of the most successful companies out there – Weight Watchers, AA, Jenny Craig – they all have Accountability Buddies. Heck, even sports teams have cheerleaders! When you have someone to keep you on track, you can reach the stars. Friends are great, don’t get me wrong. But sometimes we treat them like our parents – they know what’s best for us, but we won’t hear them saying the words that will take us to the next level. Getting an Accountability Buddy, someone who has their own goals to reach and is looking for someone with similar goals, may what you need.
An Accountability Buddy is there is give you the positive boost you need when the great idea you thought you had has been counteracted by your doubting, insecure self that says you can’t do it; gives you the kick in the butt needed when yo don’t feel like working on a project that will bring you to the next level and will find a way to make productive timeout of the time you are procrastinating with. Maybe you need a separate Accountability Buddy for each aspect of your life. Maybe you need a professional who is outside of your life to give you a different perspective. Maybe it’s a coworker who has similar goals. Maybe it’s your neighbor that is walking at the same time you would put into your schedule to exercise. Whoever it is, you’re giving back at the same time, helping them with their goals.
Find your Accountability Buddy today. It’ll be the best thing you could do for you – and them too.
